EAT: Plant Food & Wine on Abbot Kinney in Venice, CA

From the conceptual garden of esteemed plant-based chef Matthew Kenney grows his latest vegan venture, Plant Food and Wine. Tucked away in one of our favorite Venice neighborhoods of Abbot Kinney, the former AXE location boasts seasonal plant-based fare that is anything but boring or bland. Kenney, a notable plant-based chef, lifestyle educator and culinary instructor is truly a pioneer of the slow-food movement, driving home the importance of farm-to-table, local and sustainable fare – his acclaimed culinary school has even been named one of the best cooking schools in the country by Food & Wine. So it’s no surprise that his new real estate in Venice is a reflection of not only the demand for health conscious cuisine, but of his expertise in the industry as well.

Kenney’s plant-based oasis boasts a clean, modern, minimalist interior, reminiscent of its AXE predecessor, with a tranquil outdoor patio that gives even the botanical gardens a run for their money. Hours can be spent on the beautiful back patio soaking in the sunlight and drinking organic rose amongst the greenery under a string of white lights.

The food itself is exquisite – a variety of unique plant-based options to keep your palette satisfied. Stand outs include the house-made tree nut cheese plate with fennel crackers, the carrot soup with zaatar, and the avocado, watermelon radish salad. Seasonal fresh drinks include everything from Sightglass roasted coffee, non-alcoholic basil lemonade and a range of impeccably selected biodynamic and organic wines.

Plant Food & Wine’s fresh, local and delicious plates combined with its chic outdoor garden patio will soon make this backyard oasis the chicest vegan place to be this summer.
