Canadian-bred and Seoul-based artist Monika Traikov gives a new spin on the common phrase ‘head in the clouds’. Her mixed media prints depict magical landscapes and portraits with imposed pastel clouds and geometric graphics floating overhead. Her process often begins with old photos and portraits, preserving them in a dreamy time-capsule of sorts. Monika’s work evokes a nostalgic feeling; it’s as if her subjects exist somewhere in the space between asleep and awake, just close enough that you can feel their presences, but just far enough that they’re out of reach.
